The Lavender plant we keep in our bedroom

Lavender is a plant I keep trying to grow in the garden. However, I don’t feel I have been very successful at it. It just keeps dying on me. Plants in general seem to die on me but growing lavender has been frustrating. I love lavender and I think it’s so pretty. So I decided to stop growing it in the garden and to keep it in the house.

A few weeks ago I read a blog post that suggested keeping a lavender plant in the bedroom is helpful for sleep. So I went to the local garden centre to pick up that plant. I have been keeping the plant in the bedroom ever since. Personally, I think, you may need to lie down in a field of lavender for sleep to happen but it was worth a try.

Although, this wasn’t the only reason I wanted to keep lavender in the house. Last year I made a Lavender Limeade which was delicious and I wanted to start cooking with it more. Lavender has amazing health benefits. It’s not only great for sleep and anxiety but it’s effective in treating fungal infections. Plus it can help to stimulate the digestive system and detoxify the liver. It’s also great cosmetically too as it can help with hair loss and acne too.

Lavender is native to North Africa and the mountain regions of the Mediterranean. It’s a very fragrant flower that can make a beautiful smelling oil. Over the past few weeks I have also discovered that you can bake and cook with the lavender plant.

Although lavender is overpowering, added sparingly to baked goods and savoury dishes it can add so much flavour. Over the next month I will be sharing 11 recipes that I have cooked and that my little family and I have enjoyed. They are all delicious so please watch this space.

Have you ever cooked with a different ingredient? What was it and how did the meal turn out? Let me know in the comments below and please don’t forget to like and follow me. Thank you. xxx
