My Top Tips To Storing and Keeping Knives! Personally, I think knives are one of the most important items in the kitchen. You can’t cut food without a knife or sharp implement! Therefore for me they are a necessity and one that really needs looking after very well. Over the years I have picked up hacks on how to store and keep knives in the kitchen. I feel this has saved me a fortune and my fingers too.

My first tip is to buy good quality knives. If you are just starting out in the kitchen then buy yourself one good quality knife that you can use to cut everything. Then if you want to you can expand from there. I realise knives are expensive but buying good quality will mean you don’t have to buy new knifes every so often. It also means there is less waste too.
A huge must is to keep your knives sharp. If you have the one knife I would suggest sharping it every time you use it. It does means that you will also need to invest in a knife sharper as well. When you sharpen a knife you’re not actually sharpening it but straightening it. I recommend using the sharpener and then testing whether it’s straight on a flat surface. If it bends a little sharpen again and test. Repeat this process until your knife is straight.
When I have finished using the knife I always wash it up immediately. I never put knives in the dishwasher as it tends to blunt them. Therefore I use a little bit of washing up liquid and a cloth and wipe the blade carefully. Then I dry it and put it back into my knife block.
The final hack is never put knives in drawers. I have a knife block that I store my knives in. You don’t need to go all fancy though. My dad had a large magnet for the wall that he used to store his knives on. Dad was the one who taught me not to put knives in draws. When I asked he why dad told me that I didn’t want to lose a finger. Hence the reason why I now have a knife block in the kitchen.

These are all the hacks or top tips I have picked up over the years. I have not only saved myself time and energy I feel like I’m not wasting as much either. Plus I have hopefully stopped myself from injury as well. I quite like my fingers so want to keep them on my hands if I can. My knife block was expensive but it has lasted me and I do try to remember to keep them sharp and out of the kitchen draw too.
Do you have one good quality knife or a few and if so, what brand have you brought and why? Let me know in the comments below and please don’t forget to like and follow me.
