Christmas is the one time of year I remember my Dad making mackerel pate. Dad would always make his mackerel pate from scratch. He would eat it on toast for breakfast during the festive season. When I was a child I never really liked strong flavoured foods. I wasn’t a fussy eater, but I just didn’t like the taste of olives nor mackerel.
As I have grown older, my taste buds have changed and nowadays I love most strong flavours. Mackerel pate is definitely one I have been enjoying for the past few years. When I make this dish it brings back a wonderful memory of my Dad enjoying this for his breakfast. My version is slightly different from my Dad’s but it’s still as delicious. Below is a video and recipe for you.

Mackerel and Dill Pate was yummy and I ate my version with my chickpea flour wraps. As I have a gluten intolerance I can’t eat toast so I made the wraps or pancakes to go with the pate. The pate would be good as a breakfast, lunch or dinner. Plus it would be good as part of a buffet style meal too or even a starter. The pate is freezable so you could make it in advance and freeze it. However you decide to eat this dish, as always, please enjoy.
