To be honest, I’ve never really been a big fan of a mocha as a coffee. I have always thought the idea of coffee and chocolate as strange. It’s like the coffee chocolates are always the last left in a box of chocolates. Plus, I quit caffeine about a year ago. I wasn’t really missing it but then I found a great alternative. Chicory tastes just like coffee and it’s brilliant as a mocha.

The first and last mocha I had was in a certain famous coffee shop and I thought it was far too sweet but also really sour as well. So I was a little cautious of trying to make this drink with chicory. However, I was so pleased when I did. The bonus for me is that chicory has lots of health benefits too.

Chicory is a woody, herbaceous plant that has a wealth of health benefits. These include, the ability to ease digestive problems, prevent heartburn, reduce arthritis pains, detoxify the liver and the gall bladder, prevent bacterial infections, boost the immune system and reduce the chance of heart disease. Chicory has been used for hundreds of years as a herbal remedy for many diseases and continues to help with health problems.

The amazing chicory has plenty of nutritional value too. It is a great source of vitamins and minerals including zinc, magnesium, manganese, calcium, iron, folic acid, and potassium as well as, vitamin A, B6, C, E and K. So as well as this drink being delicious it’s also packed full of nutrients that have brilliant benefits of the body. Well worth a try.

We all enjoy hot chocolate in this house but I now love this mocha. It’s a drink that can really be enjoyed on a cold winter day, in front of a favourite film or just sitting down and relaxing. The mocha can be adjusted to anyone’s tastes. So you can add more or less cacao or more or less chicory or more or less maple syrup. This is now one of my favourite warm drinks. However you decide to drink this delicious mocha, as always, please enjoy.
