Spicy Monster Burgers

Spicy Monster Burgers

Halloween is the perfect time to get little ones interested in the kitchen. The food can be made into colourful creations at this time of year. These spicy monster burgers are a brilliant kids and adult friendly meal. It’s a good way to introduce new foods to them and hopefully help them develop an appetite for cooking. Plus if the kids don’t eat these burgers they might just come and eat them. We loved our monsters and we hope you will love to them too. Below is a video and recipe for you. #

Equipment

  • Sharp knife
  • Chopping board
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Teaspoon
  • Tablespoon
  • Baking tray

Ingredients

  • Turkey mince x 500g
  • Almond flour or breadcrumbs x 4 tbsps
  • Tomato puree x 2 tbsps
  • Carrot x 1
  • Harissa spices x 1 – 2 tsps
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Burger buns x 4
  • Cocktail sticks x 8
  • Olives x 8
  • Lettuce x 1 handful
  • Cheese slices x 4 – 8

Method

  • Peel and grate the carrot.
  • Put the turkey mince, almond flour, grated carrot (leaving a teaspoon for the monster eyes), tomato puree, harissa spices and salt and pepper to taste.
  • Dampen your hands under the tap to stop the mixture from sticking.
  • With your hands mix all the ingredients in the bowl together.
  • Once the ingredients are mixed together divide the mixture in four equal parts.
  • Grab a quarter and make a burger shape with your hands.
  • Put the burger onto a plate and put a dimple in the middle of the burger.
  • The dimple will stop the burger from rising too much when it’s cooking in the oven or on the grill.
  • When all the burgers are made store in the fridge for at least two hours or overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 180ºC and add the tray at the same time.
  • Once the oven has preheated carefully remove the tray from the oven and put the burgers in.
  • The cold burgers will hit the hot baking tray and hopefully become juicy and tender.
  • Let them cook for 25 – 30 minutes and remove once browned on the outside.
  • While the burgers are cooking prepare the monsters.
  • Using a little bit of the leftover carrots stuff the olives and put a cocktail stick into it.
  • Place the cocktail stick on the bun and repeat for the rest of the olives.
  • Slice the cheese and cut triangles into the lengthways side.
  • This will form the teeth.
  • Slice the burger buns open and place the lettuce on the bottom.
  • When the burgers have cooked remove them from the oven.
  • Place the burgers on top of the lettuce.
  • Put the cheese teeth on top of the burger and put the top back on.
  • To make the monsters eyes secure carefully press the cocktail sticks into the top of the buns.
  • Then serve with chips and enjoy.
Spicy Monster Burgers

Spicy Monster Burgers were so delicious. We made sure we ate them all too. My husband Howard, son Ted and I don’t want them coming back to eat us. (Hee, hee!) These were easy to prepare and cook. All of the ingredients are freezable so you could make these burgers and freeze them. Then all you have to do is defrost them when you want to eat them. Also they make scrummy leftovers too. Great for a packed lunch. However you decide to eat these burgers, as always, please enjoy! Thank you xxx
