Harissa Spiced Sweet Potatoes Mash

Creamy, smooth mash potatoes on a cold winters day in the best comfort food. To be honest I like to enjoy a wide of variety of cook potatoes but I think mash is up there with chips. I would also like to thank whoever it was who introduced sweet potato to the UK.

It’s a God send to have alternatives to white potato. Plus it makes a delicious change and adding the spices also helped to add a huge amount of flavour to this dish. For me it made everything else on the plate even tastier. I hope it does the same for you. Below is a video and recipe for you.

Serves 4

Equipment

  • Sharp knife
  • Chopping board
  • Baking tray
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Tablespoon
  • Teaspoon
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Potato masher or fork

Ingredients

  • Sweet Potatoes x 4 or 800g
  • Olive oil x 4 tbsps
  • Harissa spices x 1 – 2 tsp
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C or gas mark 6.
  • Put a baking tray in too.
  • Pierce the sweet potatoes with a knife.
  • Once the oven has preheated remove the baking tray.
  • Spread oil over the base if necessary and put the pierced potatoes in.
  • Place the baking tray into the oven and cook for about an hour.
  • Remove the sweet potatoes from the oven and leave to cool.
  • Cut them open if necessary to help them cool.
  • Once cool pour the oil into a small mixing bowl and add in the spices and salt and pepper to taste.
  • Mix these ingredients together.
  • Remove the skins from the potatoes and place the flesh in a large mixing bowl.
  • Mash the potatoes until they are smooth.
  • Then serve with fish, chicken, beans and a side of your choice.
  • Finally enjoy.

Harissa Spiced Sweet Mash Potatoes was a delicious dish that I enjoyed. It was very easy to prepare and cook. The recipe was quite time consuming too. It would make a great lunch or even a really good dinner too. You could also eat the leftovers the next day. Plus you can freeze it as well but personally I prefer these mash potatoes fresh.
