Southern Spice Sweet Potato Chips

The other day I was making chicken and chips for dinner. I know this is a meal that will be gobbled up by my little family. My husband Howard and son Ted love their filthy food. Suddenly Howard asks if we have can southern fried chips. I was a bit unsure as Ted can be a fussy eater but he started searching the internet for recipes. Ted then found a recipe we adapted to suit our tastes and we made the seasoning for the chips. It was so good of course we had to share the recipe with you. Below is a video and recipe for you.

Serves 4

Equipment

  • Potato peeler
  • Sharp knife
  • Chopping board
  • Baking tray
  • Teaspoon
  • Tablespoon

Ingredients

  • Sweet potatoes or white potatoes x 800g
  • Baking powder x 1 tsp
  • Garlic granules/powder x 1 tsp
  • Onion powder x 1 tsp
  • Cayenne pepper x 1/8 tsp
  • Mild or hot chili powder x 1 tsp
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil x 4 tbsp

Method

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C or gas mark 4 and put the baking tray in.
  • Peel the sweet potato and cut into chip shapes.
  • Mixed all the spices in a bowl and add the oil.
  • Remove the baking tray from the oven and put the chips in.
  • Pour over the oil and toss the chips until they are all covered in the oil mixture.
  • Now put the baking tray back into the oven.
  • Cook for 25 – 30 minutes depending on your oven.
  • When the chips are golden brown remove and serve.
  • Then enjoy!

They complimented the chicken and the salad that I ate with this dinner. These were delicious with chicken but you could also eat these with a beef burger or a pork chop as well.
