The Handmade Pie and Ale House, Weymouth

The HPAHOn holiday in Weymouth a few weeks ago we had the pleasure of eating lunch in The Handmade Pie and Ale House. It is situated on a back street, near the train station. The building is modern and the dining is across two floors. We were situated at the back of the resturant in a lovely cosy corner. Just across the room from us was a table with colouring books, pens and puzzles for the children. So obviously a child friendly restuarant.

The menu had a gluten free section which was great for me. Sadly, there were no gluten free pies made with gluten free pastry but they had a fish pie with a potato top which was yummy. My son also had a fish pie but he decided his father’s meal was much tastier than his own. My husband had a Chicken and Leek pie which he said was delicious.

When we mentioned to the waiter that my son prefered his father’s food and that there were no pies on the menu for children, he promptly apologised and said he would mention this idea to the manager. He told us they do serve pies to children but they normally spilt them in half for two bigger children. My husband noted that works if their are only two children in there family.

The service was excellent and the food was amazing. Once we had ordered the waiter asked if we would like our son’s food to be served first. The food appeared promptly and with very little fuss. Our son’s did arrive first but ours came quickly after his dinner so we could all eat together. During our meal the waiter came to our table to ask if everything was ok with our food. The food was delicious but the portion sizes were large, I could not finish it all so I suggest going there very hungry.

The menu had other options but the main part was the homemade pies. They are made fresh on site everyday and they had a good selection of ales for my husband. He was even trying a few before he decided which to have with his meal.  When we visited it was mid week and out of the holiday season. The restuarant was very quiet but it was a great place to eat. The Handmade Pie and Ale House I would award five stars to and if we are visiting Weymouth again I would difinetely go here. An absolutely yummy lunch with great service and a fantastic atmosphere.
