Jamie Tuna Burgers is an idea developed from my Jamie Tuna Pasta recipe. When I first moved in with my husband, Jamie Tuna Pasta was a staple in our home. It was a go to meal for us being busy working people. It’s an easy dinner that is ready within 30 minutes so we loved it when we were both working.

The recipe I have adapted from a Jamie Oliver recipe, hence the name. The other day when I was thinking about doing a burgers week on my blog I wondered what this dish would taste like in a burger. So I gave it a go and we were not disappointed.

One of the main ingredients in both Jamie Tuna Pasta and my Jamie Tuna Burgers is basil. We love basil in this house and normally we have it with Italian style food. Basil has numerous health benefits as it contains high levels of antioxidants, magnesium and vitamins. The herb is also a great anti-bacterial and antimicrobial agent that can fight against germs and bacteria.

In ancient medicine, the use of basil was quite popular. When suffering with constipation, cramps, anxiety or depression, people would often make basil tea to treat the symptoms. So my top tip is to start adding basil to your meals because it can make you smile again. The basil in this burger, along with the other ingredients, makes them sweet and juicy. It’s definitely an alternative to the usual beef burger and well worth a try.

Equipment needed

  • Food processor
  • Grater
  • Fork or juicer
  • Tablespoon
  • Teaspoon

Ingredients needed

  • Tuna x 500g
  • Onions x 1 large
  • Courgette x 1 small
  • Tomato puree x 4 tbsp
  • Basil x 1 handful
  • Lemon x 1 juice
  • Cinnamon x 1 tsp
  • Salt and pepper
  • Cheddar Cheese x 1 – 2 slice (optional)


  • Preheat the oven to 180°.
  • Start by chopping the onion.
  • Next grate the courgette.
  • Now add the onion, courgette, tomato puree, basil, lemon juice and cinnamon to the food processor and add salt and pepper to taste
  • Blend together.
  • When the ingredients are mixed together separate them into four even parts.
  • Shape the parts into burgers and put them in the baking tray.
  • Put into the oven for around 15 – 20 minutes.
  • Once cooked remove and serve with chips and salad.
  • Enjoy.

Jamie Tuna Burgers are a great meal that will feed the whole family. My son loves fish and he loves burgers so this is a perfect combination for him. I added cheese to my husband and son’s burger. They both love a cheese burger so the dinner was a huge hit. The burger and all the ingredients are freezable so you could make this recipe when you have time and freeze it for a tasty mid week meal.
