Happy New Year to you all. I hope your year has got off to a flying start. At the beginning of 2018 I decided to set myself goals. In the past, I have been the person who didn’t like to make new years resolutions. I would normally make it to about half way through January and then break my resolution. Then I would probably spend the rest of January beating myself up that I hadn’t kept going with my resolutions.
Nowadays I’m learning forgiveness and I’m trying not to beat myself up. I try to tell myself it’s OK and tomorrow is a new day. For me, it means I can always start again and I don’t need to take it so seriously. So that’s what I’ve decided to do in 2019 too. When I write down what I want to achieve I feel it gives me a sense of direction and I know what I am working towards.
So this year I thought I would share 5 new goals I have set for 2019. My first goal for the New Year is to learn how to sing. I love to sing but I’m never sure if I’m doing it well. Personally I think I sound like a drowning cat but I still enjoy it. However to help me with this goal I asked my lovely husband to buy me a book about learning how to sing for Christmas. I thought it would help me to stay focused on my goal.
Another way I have decided to stay focused on singing is to join a choir. I have seen an advert for a local choir so I thought I would start there. I’m not saying I’m going to be Catherine Jenkins but I would love to know what I was doing when it comes to my voice. Also I feel as though this would build my confidence.
For those of you that don’t know, I have a YouTube channel called Alexis Knibbs. It’s an everything channel so I post videos about lifestyle, cleaning, cooking and I upload three times a week on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. When I first started my channel speaking in front of a camera did not come naturally and it has taken a lot of practice. So my third goal is to build my confidence and to continually improve at speaking to the camera. Plus, if I can get an opportunity I would love to practise speaking in front of audiences.
My fourth goal is to continue to promote my cookery book Gifts from Grandpa. If you haven’t bought a copy it’s available from Amazon and yes that was an advert for my book. It was a goal of mine in 2018 to write a recipe book based on my Dad’s recipes.
Although it took me a year, I wrote, produced and published this book myself. The only part I cannot claim for is the editing. My lovely husband, Howard edited the book and my cousin also helped later. I thoroughly enjoyed all the elements it took to publish it and I have decided to continue to promote the book and its recipes on my YouTube channel and blog.
The final goal for 2019 is very simple. It’s to remember to take care of me. So last year, I’m pleased to say, apart from a couple of days I got up early every morning and exercised my mind and body. I feel so much better when I get up early and exercise. It gives my whole day a sense of direction and I find I’m much more productive.
So these are my five top goals for 2019. As I feel I achieved a lot last year I’m hoping the same will be true in this one. Resolutions always used to feel like a task and I felt I had to do it to fit in somehow. In 2018 I decided to start calling new year resolutions goals. The word goals to me made them sound more achievable and in 2018 I did feel as though I achieved what I set out to do. So from now on, every year I’m going to set out my goals and let’s see what 2019 brings.
Do you make New Year’s resolutions/goals and what do you call them? What are yours if you have made any? Let me know in the comments below and please don’t forget to like and follow me. Thank you. xxx
