Chicken Spag Bowl

Chicken and bolognaise sauce are not two ingredients I ever thought of put together. The other day I standing at the fridge peering in wondering what we were going to have for dinner. When I lived at home my dad would laugh at me if I did this in front of him.

Dad would ask me if there was anything interesting in there or he didn’t realise the TV was in the fridge. To which I would sarcastically laugh and say no. I’m sure it sounds strange to many but by just simple looking into the fridge I would gather a lot of inspiration. I change honestly say this mad method of mine works as we ate a delicious meal. Below is a video and recipe for you.

Equipment

  • Sharp knife
  • Chopping board
  • Large saucepan
  • Stirring spoon
  • Teaspoon
  • Serving spoon

Ingredients

  • Chicken x 500g
  • Onion x 1
  • Garlic x 1
  • Carrots x 1
  • Courgette x 1
  • Tomatoes x 1 400g tin
  • Chicken stock x 200mls .
  • Rosemary x 1 small handful or dried x 1 tsp
  • Oregano x 1 small handful or dried x 1 tsp
  • Basil x 1 small handful or dried x 1 tsp
  • Bay leaves x 2
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Spaghetti or pasta of your choice x 300g
  • Oil for the base of the pan0

Method

  • Peel, slice and dice the onion.
  • Squash the garlic under the knife and remove the skin.
  • Chop the chicken into 1 inch pieces.
  • Now slice the garlic and set these ingredients aside.
  • Peel the carrot and courgette and grate them.
  • Put the large saucepan onto a high heat on the hob.
  • Add oil to the base of the pan and leave the pan to heat up.
  • Once the pan is hot add in the onion and fry until they start to soften.
  • Add in the garlic and fry for a further 30 seconds or so.
  • Just until you can smell the garlic cooking.
  • Now add in the chicken and fry until golden brown.
  • Next add in the grated carrot and courgette.
  • Fry for a further 3 – 5 minutes.
  • Now add in the tomatoes and chicken stock.
  • Bring all the ingredients to the boil.
  • Chop the rosemary and oregano and put these into the pot.
  • Add in the bay leaves too.
  • Stir everything together and turn the heat down to a medium heat.
  • Let the sauce simmer while you cook the pasta as per the packet instructions.
  • Once the pasta has cooked drain it and set to one side.
  • Tear the basil up and put it into the sauce as well.
  • Now add in the pasta and mix everything together.
  • Finally serve with cheese (optional) and enjoy.

Chicken Spag Bowl was a delicious dish that we all enjoyed. It was a very easy meal to prepare and cook. Plus it was very tasty too. All the ingredients in the sauce are freezable so you could make this meal is advance and freeze it for another occasion. The meal was also tasty the next day as leftovers.
